Joe Henry is the man who warms your living room on cold winter evenings while you sink deeply into the sofa. He is influenced by Neil Young and Bob Dylan, sounds like, say, Ron Sexmith, Lucinda Williams andJohn Hiatt , but doesn't want to be called a singer-songwriter. Joe Henry is best known for his two country albums, 'Short Man's Room' from 1992 and 'Kindness of the World' from 1993. Members of the Jayhawks appeared on both albums. But Joe Henry's restless and adventurous nature made him change his musical direction several times. He recorded some excellent country covers, but he also wants to delve into soul, funk and rock 'n' roll. Henry won a Grammy as producer of the Solomon Burke album 'Don't Give Up On Me'. He also worked for Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, Bettye LaVette, Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint. He took the impressions he gained from these artists to his own record 'Civilians', which was released in September 2007. A sometimes devastating but very addictive collection of stories, or as Joe Henry himself says: “The songs have the right amount of smoke, the right number of mirrors and the right kind of clarity.”
