Joe Henry

Joe Henry is an experienced and gifted musician: he won a Grammy Award, provided his sister-in-law Madonna with the song ‘Don’t Tell Me’ (listen to the version of ‘Don’t Tell Me’ in which they perform together) and he is a top notch producer, behind the buttons on albums of Elvis Costello, Bonnie Riatt and Solomon Burke.

Meanwhile, Henry releases his thirteenth album: Invisible Hour. On the recordings he was accompanied by a host of musicians, but he completes his tour solo and acoustic. According to Henry himself, the songs come out best in that way. But older songs are given a new life too.

Henry’s music sounds like creaking blues and smoked through nightclub jazz. Comparison with Randy Newman or Tom Waits is not far-fetched, but actually the music mostly sounds like ‘Joe Henry music’. A magical musician that for some reason never got the world fame that he deserves.
