Respected all over the world and playing regularly with the Han Bennink Trio or Tony Malaby’s Novela, Joachim Badenhorst has been one of the most fascinating characters in the Belgian improvisational scene for several years now. After the success of his solo debut ‘The Jungle He Told Me’ he now presents us with his second solo album, which All about Jazz USA called “A colorful jungle of sounds, full of brilliant, original ideas”

Badenhorst was voted the ‘Best Clarinetist of 2011’ by a group of international jazz journalists in the ‘4th Annual Intruso Critics Poll’ and his album was in Knack’s top 10 best jazz albums of 2012. His projects with the Icelandic quartet Mogil, the French-German-Belgian trio Baloni or the Danish-Norwegian-Belgian band including Sissel Vera Pettersen and Mikkel Ploug are proof of his boundless curiosity. Today, he is collecting all these encounters to build his magnum opus, the Carate Urio Orchestra. But tonight you can hear him solo in all his purity.

OAKTREE TRIO

Established in 2008, the musicians of OakTree Trio take you on a subtle and creative musical journey that is at once playful and passionate, adventurous and subdued. Their music is situated on the crossroads of their educations and interests: classical music, jazz, Balkan music, world music and free improvisation. The harmony between cello, accordion and voice stimulates the public’s imagination and urge to dance.

Consisting of cello player Annemie Osbore, accordionist Thibault Dille and singer Sarah Klenes, the OakTree Trio has been enriching its repertoire from the get-go, with new and personal compositions, chansons, Latin standards and pop songs. One thing, however, never changes: the desire to create or re-create in the moment. The diversity in musical backgrounds is responsible for an interesting hodgepodge of sound textures and surprising role reversals. In short, OakTree brings passion and poetry and will leave no one unmoved.
