Janis Ian

Her controversial lyrics, innovative sound and social commitment have made Janis Ian a household name in music history for years. Ian started her career at the age of fourteen. She made her debut with the self-penned song Society Child, about a relationship between a white girl and a black boy. A major discussion broke out in America and put the young Janis in the center of attention.

Her hit At Seventeen from the album Between the lines received no fewer than five Grammy nominations in 1975. Later songs such as Jesse and Fly too high would also become worldwide successes. In the 1980s, Ian stopped releasing music for a while and was struggling financially and personally. In 1992 she made her comeback with the album Breaking silence. She publicly came out about her homosexuality and started making music again.
