JAKOB BRO - 22 STRINGS AND A PIECE OF WOOD
‘22 Strings and a piece of wood’ is quite an accurate description of this ensemble’s line-up. The stringed instruments form a total of 22 strings, while the ‘piece of wood’ refers to the mouthpiece of Steven Delannoye’s saxophone.
Everything started when double bass player and jazz programmer for music center De Bijloke Kristof Roseeuw invited Danish guitarist Jakob Bro. When double bass player Yannick Peeters, special guest Steven Delannoye and a string orchestra were added to the mix, a new and unique ensemble was formed that fits perfectly with Jakob Bro’s trademark dreamy and melodic pieces.
The fascinating fact about this ensemble is that it’s a new line-up consisting of profound and interesting crossovers. Many of the musicians have played together before as a duo or in the same ensemble. Newcomer Franz Loriot is probably best known for his work in the Baloni Ensemble. No doubt this cooperation between Bro, Loriot and four local musicians will enchant the audience.
"Jakob has something going on, this egoless thing. There's a quality he has as a person that allows the music to happen" (Bill Frisell)

LAMA TRIO FEAT. JOACHIM BADENHORST
Lama is a portuguese trio featuring trumpet player Susana Santos Silva, who is renowned for her collaboration with De Beren Gieren. On this occasion, the trio has invited saxophonist and clarinetist Joachim Badenhorstalong as a special guest, who is releasing his second solo album this spring. His drive to explore the possibilities of his instrument and music in general makes him an invaluable addition to the Lama Trio.
“Lama is one of those bands that roams on the crossroads between accessible and experimental jazz. They play with a fresh, adventurous spirit, giving ample room to personal freedom. At the same time, however, the atmosphere is dreamy, cinematic and charming, without resulting in cheap effects, cheesy topics or other clichés. The fact that every member has a strong musical personality ensures the purity and alertness of their performance, but is their collaboration that really makes it shine.” - Enola.be
All About Jazz added: “It’s like waking up on another planet: one that feels familiar and with which you already have a bond.”
