Istanbul Expres: Korhan Futaci & Kara Orkestra / Yasemin Mori

KORHAN FUTACI & KARA ORKESTRA

The latest project by musical jack-of-all-trades Korhan Futaci is, once again, a refined blend of genres and styles. In the past, Futaci has successfully mixed traditional Turkish music with avant-garde rock music and jazz. The free-jazz improvisation ensemble Konstrukt, in which Futaci played alongside Peter Brötzmann, Paal Nilssen-Love and Marshall Allen (Sun Ra), was another absolute highlight in his career.

Korhan Futaci & Kara Orkestra will take you on an intense rollercoaster ride, through the depths of psychedelic jazz-rock, via mesmerizing guitar and saxophone solos, to the true classical themes and melodies of the Ottoman tradition.

Korhan Futacı (voice, sax), Barlas Tan Özemek (guitar), Gökhan Ṣahinkaya (bass guitar), Can Güngör (percussion, drums), Erdem Göymen (percussion, drums), Azad Samad Kamali (keyboard)

YASEMIN MORI

With Hayvanlar, her 2008 debut album, Yasemin Mori arrived on the scene with a bang. This curly-haired indie artist’s music and sensual movement enchants music lovers time and time again. Her second album, Deli Bando, playfully refers to Erasmus’ The Praise of Folly and is an ode to music and joie de vivre. Her surrealistic lyrics are a pastiche of East and West, translating classical myths to the modern day and age. Live on stage, this becomes a dramatic, passionate and exuberant play of energy and melody. A true praise of the madness of life!

Yasemin Mori (vocals), Can Çankaya (keyboard), Barlas Tan Özemek (guitar), Gökhan ahinkaya (bass) and Berke Can Özcan (percussion, drums).
