Istanbul Ekspres: Karsu

Every year, Istanbul celebrates Ekspres cheerfully and intense party with Turkish music in Ghent. This eleventh edition also promises to be special. The Centrale and the Handelsbeurs present a compact program under the special circumstances, but no less filled with Turkish cordiality and strongly spiced melodies that make the heart sing.

Karsu

The Amsterdam Karsu has already completed an impressive career in her young life. She conquered stages in more than 20 countries, including the famous Carnegie Hall in New York and the North Sea Jazz Festival. With her idiosyncratic voice and style, she symbolizes an entire generation. Karsu is one with her time and easily builds bridges between pop, jazz, classical and Turkish music. Her second album Colorswas awarded an Edison in 2016 and her latest album Karsu also received rave reviews. 

During the making of the new album she developed a different sound, inspired by traveling in China, Bali and Los Angeles. Karsu contains both English and Turkish songs, in which very intimate and melancholic moments can quickly explode in intensity.
