Into the dark: 'Now I lay me down'

SESAME, OPEN YOU

Lie down on a bed of grass. The light goes out, it is pitch black. Music by Bach rises, followed by Barber, Britten and Crumb. Classical work mixes with contemporary sounds.

You imagine yourself in a dream world that surrounds you in a different way. Sharpen your hearing and be surprised.

SENSES ON SHARPNESS

Music is art to listen to. Yet visual stimuli also influence the listening experience: which instruments do you hear, who is about to join in, what is the relationship between the musicians, how do they feel? Moreover, the eye is quickly distracted by the proximity of other visitors.

INTO THE DARK

That is why the German Solo ensemble Kaleidoskop in the dark. They have been doing this since 2011, together with the company Into the Dark. With the help of a movement coach who works with blind people, the musicians learned to maneuver between sixty beds while making music.

That pays off, because anyone who listens in the dark opens new doors in the music.
