Igor Gehenot Trio / Tutu Puoane Sextet

The talented pianist Igor Gehenot is poised between fragile lyricism, pop-inspired melodies and compositions with a powerful punch. Having made our land her home for the past ten year, the South African singer Tutu Puoane is now a permanent fixture. An anniversary that she cele-brates with a promising, exuberant project.

The title of Gehenot’s debut, Road Story, tells us how the winner of the 2011 Sabam Young Jazz Talent Award envisions his future: an adventure that will take him from one road to the next. For his trip, the musician from Liège has chosen good company: bass player Philippe Aerts and drummer Teun Verbruggen.

Through both her own albums and her guest appearances—at the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Tuur Florizoone’s MixTuur project, to name just two—Pouane has made a splash as a singer with both technical prowess and the power to evoke divergent emotions. For this concert, an overview of ten years of Tutu in Belgium, she combines groove, soul, dance and the imagination—a celebration to look forward to.
