Iedereen Klassiek in de Handelsbeurs

Everyone Classic was a grand music party in Antwerp last year on the occasion of Klara's tenth birthday. This year, Klara will travel to Ghent on Saturday December 3, Unesco Creative City of Music since 2009. The ideal city as a base for a day full of exciting musical activities. The Flemish Opera and Handelsbeurs Concert Hall on the Kouter are the beating heart of this holiday for classical music.

During the 8-hour live broadcast (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) from the Vlaamse Opera, Klara reports on the actions surrounding 'Everyone Classical!'.

WHAT IS HAPPENING THAT DAY IN THE TRADE FAIR?

:: EXHIBITION INSTRUMENTS AUCTION MUSIC FUND (10:00-16:30]

:: OCARINA- WORKSHOP (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM) AND CONCERT (2:30 PM - 3:00 PM)

Bologna is a very important event for Ghent partner city in the UNESCO Creative Cities network and this project obviously has a history with the composition assignment that Vooruit and the city gave to Sebastian Bradt in the spring. The premiere took place in May at the Angelica festival in Bologna and could also be heard here afterwards during Odegand. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. a workshop for about a hundred ocarina players will take place in the Handelsbeurs. At 1:50 PM the concert of the Gruppo Ocarinistico and all students will take place!

But what is an ocarina?

The ocarina is a terracotta flute , from Budrio, a small village next to Bologna. The ocarina is baked in the shape of an 'oca', goose. The instrument is held in the palm and played with ten fingers. Although renowned composers (such as Penderecki) have written for the ocarina, it is mainly used in folk music. The ocarina is currently extremely popular in Asia.

During 'Everyone Classical!' on December 3, 2011, listeners are invited to learn to play this instrument. A workshop for about a hundred ocarina players will take place in the Handelsbeurs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The teacher is Emiliano Bernagozzi from Gruppo Ocarinistico.

From the end of October you can learn via YouTube how to play Va pensiero from Nabucco by Verdi, among other things. Peanuts! At 2:30 PM the concert of the Gruppo Ocarinistico and all students will take place

:: CONCERT LEDEBIRDS (1:50-2:10 PM)

To De Ledebirds was commissioned to compile a musical repertoire that refers to the Balkan culture as it lives in Ledeberg. The Ledebirds will collaborate with several Slovak and Bulgarian guest musicians and with the Brass Band Ghent. Since 2008, De Ledebirds have been working on music projects around the cultures of the neighborhood. Bringing together musicians of different levels and backgrounds is an intensive process. They select the repertoire, provide appropriate arrangements and orchestrations, rehearse with the orchestras and soloists.

:: AUCTION OF TOP INSTRUMENTS (16:30-17:30))

Music Fund's instrument repairers work at a low price. Yet repairing all those collected instruments costs a lot of money. As a reference: a set of decent violin strings can easily cost 80 euros. To bring together these funds, an auction of several masterpieces from previous collections will take place on December 3. Bidding can be done online until December 3. The final knock-off will take place on December 3 between 4:30 PM and 6 PM in the Handelsbeurs. All this under the expert leadership of Veilinghuis Bernaerts.

During the auction, each instrument is played briefly by a musician who has 'something' for Ghent. The proceeds go to the restoration of all instruments and the training of technicians and repairers of musical instruments.
