The personal is political - talks about education, work and policy
In the context of the International Day Organizing racism De Gentse Lente, the International Committee and the Handelsbeurs a day full of discussions around the theme 'The personal is political'. The three sessions delve deeper into preventing and combating racism and discrimination, each supported with musical interventions.
Experts, academics and politicians will have their say. They put their finger on the wound and encourage structural solutions.
At 1 p.m.: Education
- What about language issues at school or in contact with parents? Or strict study advice, the lack of IT material, costs at school and bullying? We let experts from in and outside the field have their say.
- What about the broader educational framework? How does racism and discrimination take place (consciously or unconsciously) and what are possible solution strategies? We let experts in volunteer work, academics, and/or civil society experts have their say.
At 3 p.m.: Work
- What about looking for and having work? This may concern discrimination when applying for jobs, problems at work such as language, cultural differences and bullying. We let experts from in and outside the field have their say.
- What about the broader employment framework? How does racism and discrimination take place (consciously or unconsciously) and what are possible solution strategies? We let experts in volunteer work, academics, and/or civil society experts have their say.
At 5 p.m.: Policy
- What about the anti-racism and anti-discrimination policy? What are necessary work and improvement points? We let experts in volunteer work, academics, and/or civil society experts have their say.
- Politicians from various parties also share their vision. They provide structural solutions based on their expertise, experience and knowledge.
