Het Collectief & Capilla Flamenca: '12x12'

7:30 PM: Introduction with Marnix De Cat and Thomas Dieltjens

It is not obvious at first glance: work by the avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen strong> combine with medieval music. Yet Capilla Flamenca and Het Collectief, two Flemish ensembles, specialized in old and new music respectively, have succeeded in bringing the two together in an original way with '12x12'. The starting point is Stockhausen's 'Tierkreis', a work inspired by the constellations that consists of twelve short, concentrated melodies. It is not surprising that Capilla Flamenca was selected as a partner in crime to tackle Stockhausen's music. After all, they previously recorded 14th-century music related to the zodiac. The improvisations and mutual influence of the twelve singers and instrumentalists, who play both historical and modern instruments, led to a new musical zodiac. Proof that the combination of old and new music can create surprising musical gems.
