A MORE MUSICAL SPASS

An American, a Russian, a British, a Lithuanian and a Cypriot at a concert. It sounds like the beginning of a classic joke. The obligatory Belgian must be the members of Het Collectief, who perform work by the aforementioned international company. Judge for yourself whether their music makes you laugh. If so, then the proverbial barrier to contemporary classical has immediately been broken. With his blessed 76 years, the American Steve Reich is the nestor in the composer's company. The compositional technique of phase shifting that he applies in New York Counterpoint forms a reflection on time: panta rhei – or was it panta Reich – until eternity. Undoubtedly, Het Collectief, with its wonderful track record, guarantees an authentic performance of this masterpiece.
