Hélder Moutinho

In '1987', the new album by fado singer Hélder Moutinho, four stories by different writers – including Moutinho himself – unfold into four fado songs. On the album – recorded in the historical Marquês de Tancos palace in Mouraria – he is accompanied by Ricardo Parreira (Portuguese guitar), Marco Oliveira (guitar) and Fernando Araújo (bass). Moutinho’s style and renditions are colorful and close to perfection. From the moment you hear his voice at the beginning of Venho de um temp, he draws you in. In Volta a dar, he delivers a fado song in two different tempos: the joyful, danceable ‘corrid’o’ and the emotional, melancholic ‘menor’. The idea of experiencing the intensity of these voices and instruments in a live setting is a very exciting prospect indeed.
