The Hagen brothers and sister have been playing together for thirty years and today they still do so with the unparalleled fire of the first days. In the Miry Hall they will perform an integral Beethoven program, one of their favorites at its most delicately prepared. Characteristic of his first series of six quartets opus 18 (written when he was almost in his thirties) is the classical approach: Beethoven here, as it were, looks over his shoulder at Haydn and Mozart. Much later, with the twelfth string quartet, Beethoven's pinnacle of instrumental music begins: a record of enigmatic expression with inscrutable contours, not only for contemporaries but also for many generations to come. Only after countless performances did Beethoven succeed in winning the public over to his new musical world order...
