Ha'fest: Sarah Neufeld / Jóhann Jóhannsson : 'End of Summer' / Sam Amidon

SARAH NEUFELD | NEW RECORD

Canadian violin player Sarah Neufeld is thrilled to bring her new music to audiences across Europe this May, 2016. Her upcoming release, The Ridge, sees Neufeld shifting toward pop minimalism.

Her unique and driving violinistic style remains central, while lush and expressive vocals, and the addition of drums and synth create an inviting and dynamic listening field. Joined by her long time collaborator drummer/multi instrumentalist Stefan Schneider, the duo’s live performance of The Ridge offers an intimate, expansive, and captivating experience for music loving audiences.

JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON | LIVE MUSIC TO ACCOMPANY FILM END OF SUMMER

Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson renders Icelandic landscapes in beautiful compositions laced with an electronic edge of gold. Together with cellist Hildur Gu∂nadóttir and multi-instrumentist Robert A.A. Lowe (alias Lichens) he will be playing live at a screening of End of Summer, his acclaimed debut as a documentary filmmaker.

End of Summer portrays a slow, hypnotic journey through the bare landscapes of the South Pole, filmed in grainy black and white. Jóhannsson wrote the music with Lichens and Gu∂nadóttir, combined with his own field recordings from the region. They are making an implicit comment on climate change. The film is an elegy for a glacial culture dominated by penguins that has endured for centuries, but is now at risk of vanishing in the foreseeable future.
