Ha'fest: L.U.M.E. / TaxiWars / Elephant9

L.U.M.E.

The Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble (L.U.M.E.) is a project created and led by the composer Marco Barroso. The fifteen piece group, composed by some of the most experienced Portuguese musicians - on jazz and classical music - is inspired by the tradition of the Big band model, but updates it’s speech in an intelligent, ironic and skilful fashion. L.U.M.E.‘s music combines written composition with improvisation, and reaches from funk to textural music, from boogie woogie to impressionist environments, with a Zappian twist!

Marco Barroso (composer, musical director, piano), Manuel Luís Cochofel (flute), Paulo Gaspar (clarinet), João Pedro Silva (soprano saxophone), Ricardo Toscano (alto saxophone), José Menezes (tenor saxophone), Elmano Coelho (baritone saxophone), Jorge Almeida & Gonçalo Marques & Pedro Monteiro (trumpets), Ruben Santos & Eduardo Lála & Pedro Canhoto (trombones), Miguel Amado (electric bass, double bass), Vicky Marques (drums)

TAXIWARS

TaxiWars is the result of a wayward and intensive collaboration between dEUS frontman Tom Barman and saxophone player Robin Verheyen. A mixture of loose ideas and jams found their way into what became TaxiWars. JazzNotJazz, Spoken Word, Songs, Rap, Parlando, you name it. Come again, Blakey vs Gainsbourg? MC 900 ft Jesus meets Miles?

ELEPHANT9

It´s not often a "jazz" band take the big step from the club scene to a 1300 capacity rock venue like Oslo´s Rockefeller. But then again, Elephant9 is not your ordinary jazz band, often being named as Norway's best live band - surely quite rare for an instrumental band - they are equally popular in jazz and rock circles.

On this, their fourth studio album, Elephant9 once again join forces for an epic slice of mindblowing modern rock´n´jazz prog psychedelia.

Silver Mountain is an epic double album containing five tracks between 10 and 22 minutes, four tracks being originals in addition to the most spaced out version of "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" you´re likely to encounter. Needless to say, this comes highly recommended!

“If you want music by the book, this is not for you. If you desire otherworldy musical experiences and explosive dynamics however, your search is over." Mikael Åkerfeldt, Opeth
