Ha'fest: Chassol / Konono n°1

CHASSOL

Pianist, composer, arranger and musical director for the likes of Phoenix and Sebastien Tellier, the charismatic and talented Christophe Chassol gave birth to an unclassifiable artistic piece. His compositions articulate voices, music, sounds, images onto new audiovisual objects. The result has a name : "ultrascore". His aim : Harmonizing reality.

Big Sun, Chassol’s brilliantly-dazzling fourth album, crowns his trilogy of ultrascores, which started out in Creole-speaking New Orleans (Nola Chérie, 2011) before pursuing its route through India (Indiamore, 2013).

"Chassol is an eclectic genius (…) It reminds you of Steve Reich’s or Fred Viola’s music, Ennio Morricone or The Cure" Le Monde

KONONO NO 1

With the unbelievable sound of their electrified thumb pianos, and their wild rhythm section, Congolese band Konono N°1 have become the darlings of Western indie rock & electronic music audiences ever since the release of their first Congotronics album in 2004. They played at major rock festivals, were invited to record by Bjørk and Herbie Hancock, were awarded a Grammy, and were paid tribute by some of the best electronic and indie rock musicians. Konono N°1 was founded back in the 1960s by Mingiedi Mawangu, who sadly passed away last year. His son Augustin has been leading the band for the last few years.
