GRAY CELLS: FRAUD, THE GRAY ZONE

Last year, the science fraud of social psychologist Diederik Stapel was front-page news. However, this appears to be the tip of the iceberg of fraudulent acts that threaten (the reputation of) scientific research. More common malpractices - such as adjusting statistics and selectively withholding data - often go unnoticed. How can the loopholes in the net be reduced? How can we adjust the urge to publish? And is science still self-correcting today?

Reinout Verbeke (editor of Eos magazine) talks to three experts from home and abroad: Daniele Fanelli > (University of Edinburgh), Joeri Tijdink (VU Medical Center Amsterdam) and Marie-Christine Janssens (KU Leuven). Fanelli and Tijdink first give a lecture.
