Gong is often referred to as a 'cult' band.

Which we have always understood to mean,

“a band which too few people love too much”

Gong is not a band, it's a culture. Gong emerged in the late 1960s as an eccentric, psychedelic band with a central philosophy around the planet Gong and the character Zero the Hero. The story is based on a vision of founding father Daevid Allen, in which he “saw his future before his eyes” and is full of allusions to the band members and cannabis use. The 'myth' is revealed in five albums: the 'Radio Gnome Trilogy', namely Flying Teapot (1973), Angel's Egg (1973) and >You(1974), supplemented with a later fourth and fifth part, Shapeshifter(1992) and Zero to Infinity (2000). With every musician who left the band over the years, satellite groups emerged, further promoting Gong's philosophy. Daevid Allen traveled the world and left behind Gong-related bands everywhere in his wake. It is now an almost endless list. New album: 2032< /strong>

The new Gong Album '2032' will be released on September 21, 2009. Below you can watch the video of the song 'How To Stay Alive'. It is a fantastic manga animation of Daevid Allen's drawings, by the Japanese team Mood Magic, who also made System 7's Hinotori.

The lyrics of the song, rapped by Daevid Allen, revolve around the figures from the Planet Gong mythology.

"2032 is the year that the Planet Gong makes full contact with the Planet Earth; and a major new chapter in the continually evolving Gong mythology," says Daevid All.
