Gisela João has been called the most remarkable fadista of the 21st century. Her eponymous album released in 2013 was a milestone in contemporary fado. The singer digs deep into the roots and soul of fado. Most of the songs are older and have been performed by Amália Rodrigues. This makes it both a tribute and a personal profession of faith in traditional fado.
