GET WELL SOON

Konstantin Gropper, mastermind behind Get Well Soon, makes indie folk with poetic depths and great feelings. Kindamuzik about his first album 'Rest Now, Weary Head, You Will (Get Well Soon)' (2008): "When listening to the album, a large number of references immediately come to mind. The swollen orchestral Balkan winds of Beirut, the grand arrangements from Arcade Fire, the lo-fi folk and unsteady voice of early Bright Eyes, sometimes even a touch of noise and above all a lot of adolescent weltschmerz."

On second album 'Vexations' (2010) Gropper is inspired by the past: the ghost of Kurt Weill hangs around, and Gropper was inspired by some titles of the Roman stoic Seneca (!): On The Shortness Of Life, On Tranquility Of Mind and On The Happy Life. “They could be the album's subtitles,” he thinks. Yet there is no overdose of artsy-fartsy: “Gropper knows his classics, but also masters the art of making catchy melodies.” (Humo)

His third album, 'The Scarlet Beast O' Seven Heads', will be released on August 27 (for the third time on City Slang). "To my new album, the average billionaire trustfund kid can happily cruise around the mountains atop Largo di Garda in his convertible, complete with trophy girlfriend in the passenger seat. But if he feels like it, he can also get off his medication and just go crashing through the barriers,” says Gropper.

DAVID LEMAITRE

Bolivian-born David Lemaitre (us) is a singer-songwriter who writes intense folk songs creates with a voice that does think of José Gonzalez and Zach Condon (Beirut). He mentions Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and 70's psychedelia as influences. On debut EP Valediction he combines lo-fi electronics with guitar and delicate vocals.
