Anything fresher is still swimming
There are some powerful waves in the jazz sea. New ensembles pop up then slip away again. Sometimes there is even so much wave that you can no longer see the sea. Which is why the Handelbeurs has hooked three fresh fish.
These young bands are tomorrow’s starfish and what’s more you can have them with a portion of Fish ‘n Chips (veggie too).
Elliot Galvin trio
The Elliot Galvin trio has won the European Young Jazz Artist of the Year Award in 2014. Downbeat and Jazzwise both found their record The Influencing Machine "one of the best albums of 2018".
Its successor Modern Times will be released on Edition Records on 19th April 2019.
Live-mixed and recorded direct to vinyl, each side in one continuous take; Modern Times is the most stripped back, honest and representative album by Elliot Galvin yet, reaffirming his formidable growing reputation as a true original.
Melting Pot ft. Klopotec Orkestra
Since 2013 during Melting Pot, artists from various fields of art meet on one stage. The element of surprise and unpredictability evokes a thrill in both the artists and the audience. What will be brewed in the jazz pot this time?
Untill now Melting Pot took place in the Polish Wroclaw. Now the European caravan mooves to Handelsbeurs.

Continuously in the foyer: Klopotec Orkestra
Hans Beckers builds intriguing sound installations. In a remote Norwegian fishing village he found beautiful pieces of wood from old buildings and branches shaped by the sea, washed up on the beach, rafters from old houses, sheds and farms, saved from demolition.
He turned it into an peculiar orchestra of klopotecs; rattling windmills from north east Slovenia
A production of Zonzo Compagnie, coproduction with Kunstenwerkplaats Pianofabriek, KAAP, ChampdAction and ArtiJuli Kråkeslottet Senja - with support of Flanders.

The Rite of Trio
The Portuguese The Rite of Trio closes the evening. What they describe as 'jazz jambacore' sounds like a whirlwind of complex rhythms and raw guitar riffs brought with a touch of humor.
Their debut Getting all the evil of the piston collar (2016) became "jazz album of the year" according among others Jazz Noise and All About Jazz. At Fresh Fish they dive into some new tunes.
