Frederik Croene & Esther Venrooy

Composer Esther Venrooy and pianist Frederik Croene present a new CD with their own creations for grand piano and electronics. This music is a search for a possible combination between an instrument loaded with tradition and a relatively new sound medium. Different processes, such as live resampling and pre-recorded material, are used in combination with each other. The result is a synergy between the mechanically produced sound of the piano and electronically generated sound.

Koen Van Meel wrote about a previous CD by Esther Venrooy on kwadratuur.be: “[..] in addition to being listenable, it is also worth listening to. . The microscopically finely crafted sound image always sounds very beautiful, neat, measured and crystal clear, so that all tinkering and do-it-yourself work is absent.” Croene's debut CD, a radical mix of classic and new styles and playing techniques, was released in 2003 by our very own HA' label and was enthusiastically received by the press and public. “Croene is clearly a pianist with a mission. Moreover, on this CD he reveals himself as a virtuoso and very sensitive interpreter of this repertoire,” says De Standaard.
