“I strive for access to all types of music, without prejudices,” said Frank Nuyts in an interview in De Standaard about the CD release of his 2nd and 3rd Sonatas for piano. This Ghent composer indeed excels because of the virtuoso way in which he brings together influences from different styles and genres. The smooth mix of jazz, funk and classical music with which Nuyts and his Hardscore ensemble caused a sensation remains his trademark, even in the genre of the classical piano sonata. The 4th, 5th and 6th Sonatas will also be released on CD in December 2009. They are performed live according to a special concept: three pianists each play a part of Nuyts' new sonatas, alternating with music by Schumann, Janácek and Brahms.
The performances are 'illustrated' live by the artist Randall Casaer, known for the internationally famous comic strip 'Slaaphoofd'.
