Time for a breath of fresh air in the Flemish jazz landscape, welcome to Yskan.
The combination of Anneleen Boehme (LABtrio), Simon Raman (Steiger) and Geert Hendrickx (Zandland) is not strange to many. Add Sam Comerford (Thunderblender) to the mix and know that listeners will be in for something very special.
With Yskan, Geert wants to take a new direction after GIZMO, with whom he collaborated with Chris Cheek and Ben Sluijs. After a series of concerts on the Belgian jazz stages, this resulted in a fascinating EP.
Yskan's music can be described as a basis of building blocks, which are used freely and exploratively. The compositions have a strong character and are a real pleasure to listen to thanks to the constant but beautiful battle between the contrasts.
Their first CD was recorded in the Academy Hall of Sint-Truiden in co-production with Motives For Jazz. They will present this at the Handelsbeurs in Ghent on May 18.
