FOYER MATINEE: PIANODUO MEPHISTO
Pianoduo Mephisto is a duet ensemble, consisting of pianists Katrijn Simoen and John Gevaert. As spouses, they not only dedicate their lives to each other but also to the piano Four Hands repertoire. Apart from original compositions, loads of transcriptions of symphonic music were written for this formation. Franz Liszt was a prolific practitioner of this genre, arranging both his own music and compositions by other musicians to create new piano pieces. Obviously, these had to be on the debut album (2012) of Pianoduo Mephisto. For Foyer Matinee they selected the finest Four Hands, supplemented with duets by Schubert and Dvořák.
