Foyer Matinee: Osama Abdulrasol Trio

Osama Abdulrasol and Lode Vercampt have been rubbing shoulders for years on different stages, in different formations. For a long time they were members of Tri a Tolia. The two virtuosos explore the limits of qanun (Middle Eastern zither) and cello by weaving a restrained tapestry of sounds where East and West blend together exquisitely. For this concert, they are working with singer Helena Schoeters, who lends her virtuoso and clear soprano voice to the fascinating mix of sounds, and creates a new musical world with them.

Osama Abdulrasol was born in Babylon (Iraq). He is a musician, composer, producer and visual artist. Even though Osama also plays the guitar and oud, he is better known across Belgium and Europe for his performances on the qanun. He has worked with many other musicians, including Dirk Brossé, Goran Bregovic, Tom Robinson, Wannes van de Velde, Oblomow Lula Pena and Arifa. Osama Abulrasol received the Cultuurprijs van de Stad Gent 2013 (City of Ghent Culture Prize).

Lode Vercampt is a classically trained cellist, not limited to a single musical style, however. In the past, he collaborated with, among others, Il Novecento, Prima La Musica, Gorki, radioKUKAorkest, Christian Mendoza and played in lots of musical theatre productions by LOD, Het Paleis, etc.

A classical soprano, Helena Schoeters also delights in exploring her range outside the boundaries of the classical world. As part of her regular duo Helena & Axelle, she specializes in the Spanish and French song repertoire. Her past experiences include a collaboration with musical theatre Transparant.

This concert is part of Foyer Matinee, a series of aperitif concerts in Handelsbeurs during the flower market every third Sunday of the month.
