“The Iranian Khorshid Dadbeh plays scratchy, woody chords on the small Iranian tanbur, which seem to seek contact with the divine. The French Lucie Lelaurain weaves beseeching melodies through it on the duduk, a wind instrument with which you can whisper something to God. The hypnotizing music is almost unamplified and swirls through the dunes…” De Volkskrant
Hamraaz's music is both magical and atmospheric: as soon as the first notes sound, you are drawn into a hypnotic world of tranquillity and rapture. The warm timbre of the duduk and the pulsating rhythms of the tanbour and tar open up a rich sound universe of melodic maqam music. Let yourself be carried away into a trance-like, almost timeless intoxication.
Since 2021, this duo has been creating contemporary music that draws its strength from the traditions they grew up with: the traditional music of Auvergne and the deeply rooted musical culture of Iran. Mixed with experiences in Istanbul and Europe, this creates a wonderfully surprising musical cross-pollination.
