El Torta

Juan Moneo 'El Torta' (°1953) is one of the most brilliant flamenco singers of the last decades. Juan Moneo belongs to a gypsy dynasty in the heart of the flamenco world. His unmistakable voice gives El Torta its own place in the world of Cante Flamenco and recalls the legacy of the country's greatest masters - Juan Talega, Antonio Mairena. It was in the Mairena del Alcor competition where Juan Moneo received one of the most important prizes of his career in 1972: that of the best solo cantaor.

At the age of 54, he retains a strong voice with which he expresses the enormous tragedy of the cantes like no other. Juan Moneo's last CD, 'Colores Morenos' was recorded about fifteen years ago. Since then he has only participated in collective recordings. However, in November 2009 he re-released 'Momentos' as a new audiovisual work (CD-DVD) consisting of twelve cantes on CD and seven on DVD, with a making-off of the recordings. Other established names also participated in this project, such as Juan Manuel Moneo, Manuel Gutiérrez, Tino Di GeraldoandTomasito.
