Today's thinkers about tomorrow's health
Think Care is a series of polyphonic performances that brings sharp thinkers together on stage.  ;
Health care providers, scientists, opinion makers and artists analyze the medical-ethical dilemmas in a human life and confront us with the big questions of our time. In words, music and images.
How the relationship between doctor and patient is changing
The wishes and values of empowered patients seem to be increasingly important in medical choices. The classic balance of power in the consulting room is wavering.
With Klara presenter Lies Steppe as hostess, the guests on stage consider the following questions.
- Are we still blindly placing our fate in the hands of a doctor?
- Are doctors and patients increasingly on an equal footing?
- Are healthcare providers prepared to to cede some control to their patients?
- How does an equal relationship improve our medicine?
- And are we able to make major decisions about our health ourselves?

More about the guests
- Krista Bracke is an author, radio producer and honorary doctor at Ghent University. In 2009, her life was turned upside down: she barely won the fight against the flesh-eating bacteria, but she bears the physical traces of it. She walks with two lower leg prostheses, her right hand has been reconstructed and she has chronic lung damage. Krista advocates healthy positivism and more humanity in the complex healthcare provider-patient relationship.
- For Piet Hoebeke, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and urologist (UGent and UZ Gent ), the patient is the norm, not the doctor's frame of reference. He tries to listen to his patients with an open mind and takes them through an understandable story so that they can make decisions based on correct information and their own norms and values.
- Hematologist Tessa Kerre (UZ Gent and UGent) advocates 'shared decision making' in healthcare. She researches innovative methods to make complex information manageable for patients and their loved ones. Even (and perhaps especially) in these digital times, she underlines the importance of the doctor sitting on the patient's bedside and of empathetic care for the person behind the patient.
- Singer and pianist An Pierlé has been touching audiences for years with her impressive voice and disarming songs. Pierlé cannot be forced into a straightjacket and has a problem with fakes. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she dealt with it in a completely unique and positive way.
- Clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst Stijn Vanheuleis chairman of the Psychoanalysis and Consultation Psychology department at Ghent University. He participates in research into patient experience and team functioning within Ghent University Hospital.
- Stéphanie De Maesschalck is a general practitioner and likes to introduce students and colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine into the story of care in a super diverse society. The care provider-patient relationship is central to her work, both in daily contact with patients and their context, and in the communication lessons at the skills lab of Ghent University.
- With the exhibition 'The Towel' in the Sint- Jacobskerk in Ghent, visual artist Honoré d'O shows how important and necessary the immateriality of art is in these current times. During Think Care #2 he provides installations and video in collaboration with stem cell transplant patient and curator Astrid David (DAVID vzw).
