Damien Jurado, also known as ‘Seattle’s folk-boom Godfather’ will perform a seated concert in Handelsbeurs. For fifteen years now, this singer-songwriter has been releasing one critically acclaimed record after the other – ten so far. Live – at his concert this summer during the Feeërieën festival, for example – he never fails to confirm his status as a great musician and performer.

Jurado started his career with lo-fi folk recordings and was picked up almost immediately by Sub Pop Records, who released his first albums. His universally acclaimed second album, Rehearsals for Departure, was his breakthrough. Later, he traded the Sub Pop label for Secretely Canadian, where he released the excellent full-length albums Saint Bartlett and Maraqopa – featuring a more produced sound and clear nudges toward pop music and 60s psych.

Jurado makes the kind of music that forces you to sit down and listen, something we can strongly recommend. Or, to put it in the words of Focus Knack magazine: “If you want to get to know this American, just buy one of his ten albums at random. Damien Jurado is one of the few artists who have never let us down.” You know what to do!

Courtney Marie Andrews

The support act for this concert will be Courtney Marie Andrews, a young singer-songwriter from Phoenix. Her mellow country folk songs are testament to her writing talent and will not fail to impress you. Earlier this year, she released her fifth album entitled On My Page, which was recorded in the renowned Bear Creek Studio. Ryan Hadlock, the producer she hired for this gem, has worked with acts like The Lumineers, Blonde Redhead and Johnny Flinn. She played with Damien Jurado earlier this year in London, where she left the audience mesmerized, so come early!
