Celso Fonseca

With 'the sultriest voice in Rio' on the Ha' stage, Wednesday November 22 will be one of the most sensual concert evenings of this season. Celso Fonseca brings “bossa nova”, a music style that emerged in the late 1950s from jazz and Brazilian samba. It is a cocktail of seductive melodies, a caressing voice, a jazzy edge and occasionally a hint of early psychedelia... You would imagine yourself under a palm tree on a sun-drenched beach for less. The music floats on a tropical, walking rhythm that betrays the Brazilian roots. Celso Fonseca was born in Rio de Janeiro and started playing the guitar at a very young age. It was Baden Powell's music that convinced him of his musical calling. Today he sees Damien Rice, jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and Jorge Drexler as his greatest sources of inspiration. Around the age of 20 he became the guitarist of “Gilberto Gil's band” and has since played with the greatest artists of Brazilian music such as Bebel Gilberto, Milton Nascimento, Djavan, Caetono Veloso, Gal Costa, ... Celso Fonseca himself now belongs to the Brazilian top and masters the art of 'musical seduction' like no other. A bit of summer in November! It promises to be hot in the Handelsbeurs!

Fact

Celso Fonseca was inspired by Baden Powell de Aquino, father of Philippe Baden Powell, who supporting act for Marcos Valle.
