Anyone who loves top baroque ensembles such as L'Arpeggiata, Hespérion XXI, Les Musiciens du Louvre and Les Talents Lyriques will certainly have already encountered the virtuoso cello playing of Bruno Cocset. This coveted French cellist and continuo player has made more than one hundred and fifty CD recordings with this and many other Early Music ensembles. Moreover, in 1996 he founded his own ensemble, Les Basses Réunies, which specializes in the specific repertoire for continuo and bass instruments (harpsichord, organ, cello, bass gamba, theorbo, etc.). This season we finally get the chance to hear Bruno Cocset at work all alone! He plays Bach's first three cello suites on a historic instrument with gut strings, which guarantees a warm sound. Each suite will be introduced by a ricercar for solo cello by the Italian composer and cellist Domenico Gabrielli, a slightly older contemporary of Bach.
