Josh T. Pearson moves to July 19

Additional name: Nive Nielsen & the Deer Children (GR)

After two flawless ones editions, Boomtown has a cancellation this year. 11th Dream Day cancels part of its tour and Boomtown is unfortunately one of the victims. As a result, there have been changes to the Boomtown program.

For example, Josh T. Pearson takes the place of 11th Dream Day. The charismatic American singer-songwriter will therefore play on July 19 instead of the previously announced July 21. 13&God shifts to Josh T. Pearson's place on July 21. That same day, Nive Nielsen & The Deer Children are added to the bill.

Nive Nielsen is a purebred Eskimo woman from Nuuk (Greenland). Last year she released her debut album 'Nive Sings!' on her own label Tuttu Recordings. The help that Nive Nielsen received in realizing this debut is considerable; Recorded in Bristol under the approving eye of John Parish, part of it was also recorded in Montreal with Alain Auger and furthermore in San Francisco, Tucson, in her attic in Greenland and, yes, also in Belgium!

John Parish himself also appears on the album alongside Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), Patrick Carney (Black Keys), Eric Craven (Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Matt Bauer (Alela Diane), Auger and Arlen Thompson (Wolf Parade)... and the list goes on.

Nive Nielsen makes subdued Eskimo folk, Arctic pop or, if you prefer, Inuk indie and has a thing about coffee, insects, ghosts, boys (obviously), ukuleles, snow, Eskimos and naughty reindeer (Que?). Enough reasons to look forward to this concert.

13&God (USA), Connan Mockasin (N.Z.), Hannah Peel (UK), Tu Fawning (USA) Drums are for Parades, Tom Pintens, Kiss the anus of a Black Cat, Sarah Ferri and The Antler King are the latest names that Boomtown adds to its program, together with this series of young wolves, who are woven into the regular program under the Alles Kan label : The Future Dead, Love Like Birds, Compact Disk Dummies, Low Vertical, Video Volta, Roselien, Rape Blossoms, You Raskal You, The Rosewall, Loevly Gazbaby, JFJ, Pauwel De Meyer, Horses, Jogi and Wilspit, Kinky City, Steven H and Zyfa. 5 days on 5 stages
Boomtown, the only pop and rock festival within the margins of the Ghent Festivities, was a great success last year. The fascinating discovery program attracted around 7,000 festival goers every day. The formula with 3 free outdoor stages on the Kouterplein and 2 paying indoor stages in the Handelsbeurs was an immediate success.

This year too, Boomtown will be held simultaneously for 5 days - from Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 July. and organize outdoor concerts. The 3 outdoor stages at the Kouter remain reserved for national and international bands that know how to reconcile quality with great public appeal. The two indoor stages in the Handelsbeurs are reserved for specialized genres and niche acts from home and abroad. The concert hall will focus on pop, rock or alternative music that comes into its own in an intimate environment, while a smaller indoor stage will be reserved for acoustic and solo acts. All outdoor concerts are free. The indoor concerts are chargeable, just like last year.

Unique discovery festival
With this formula, Boomtown continues on its current path. The success of the 2010 edition already showed that there is a clear need for a solid pop and rock festival for the real music lover at the parties, where there is also room for alternative genres and niche music. In addition, Boomtown can now diversify even more within its musical offering and also give space to less obvious musical acts, making the festival once again a real discovery festival.

To further reinforce these intentions, organizer vzw Oude Beestenmarkt to collaborate again with Muziekclub Democrazy and Handelsbeurs Concertzaal, two important players in the Ghent music scene.

Alles Kan acts in regular programming
The collaboration between Boomtown and the Alles Kan Festival took off last year. This youth culture festival, which was started by the Youth Service of the City of Ghent and is organized by vzw zZmogh, did not just get a few places on a small stage. Boomtown, which strongly believes in youth culture, arranged two large tents for music and theater, containers for visual arts and a caravan for street theater and the more intimate acts. Through the Alles Kan Festival, creative young people were given the opportunity to do their thing at a large festival in the best conditions. This year, zZmogh and Boomtown are going one step further. The Anything Can acts will be included in the regular programming and will be performed on the stage that is most suitable for each of the acts. In this way, Boomtown creates five full-fledged stages, each with a program that consists of both professional acts and acts with the Alles Kan label.
