Big Star, with its power pop and rock music, is one of the most mythical and leading bands in rock & roll. The group influenced generations of musicians worldwide, including R.E.M., the Replacements, the dB's and Teenage Fanclub. As a result, the band's cult status continued to grow steadily. Big Star even leaves its mark in the music of dEUS. Frontman Alex Chilton made his name in the 1960s when he and his group The Box Tops burned the monster hit “The Letter” into the collective music memory. Guitarist Jon Auer and bassist Ken Stringfellow previously made their mark with The Posies. If the world were an ideal place, Big Star would have become a global group in the 1970s. The three albums they released at the time, '#1 Record', 'Radio City' and 'Third - Sister Lovers', were packed with concise and powerful songs with sharp lyrics. Unfortunately, Big Star lacked proper management at the time, which meant that their music did not sell well and the band split in '75. 'Persistence wins' seems tailor-made for Big Star. After 30 years, Alex Chilton and company are back with a new album 'In Space', with which they are now receiving the recognition they should have received thirty years ago.
SUPPORT: PASCAL DEWEZE [BELGIUM]
Pascal Deweze, who is gradually becoming an icon from the Belgian rock scene, plays in the support act. With Metal Molly, Mitsoobishy Jacson, Nemo, Chitlin' Fooks and Shadowgraphic City, Deweze made his way to Belgian stardom. He is currently mainly busy with Sukilove, a group with which he has already won many hearts in the United States. Deweze is also no stranger to Alex Chilton of Big Star. In 2004 he played as bassist in Chilton's occasional band during De Nachten in Antwerp. A collaboration that they both found very successful. Pascal Deweze does not like brushed, neat songs. He prefers records that make him nervous or fill him with uneasiness. At this concert you can personally experience whether he also conveys that feeling to his audience.
