Benedetto Lupo (piano)

The Italian pianist Benedetto Lupo is known for his extremely precise technique and exceptionally romantic feel. In 1989 he won bronze in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, launching a worldwide career. He has since recorded all of Robert Schumann's works for piano and orchestra and his recording of Nino Rota's 'Concerto Soirée' was awarded a coveted Diapason d'Or. The program for this concert is a maelstrom of emotions, stories and images. Schumann's music strongly embodies the depths, contradictions and tensions of the Romantic spirit. The 'Blumenstück', inspired by poet Jean Paul, is a witness to this.

Also in his sonata opus 11, youthful passion and burning sentiment predominate. Debussy, on the other hand, no longer wants to portray a story. In his 'Estampes', for example, he only wants to evoke a certain mood. Granados, 'the Spanish Chopin', bases his piano suite 'Goyescas' on paintings by Goya.
