The music of singer-composer Bachar Mar-Khalifé is imbued with a dark power. On his third album Ya Balad (‘Oh Land’), he chases memories of his childhood Lebanon; the land of sun and jasmine, but also explosions and the roar of generators. Hopeful musings add colour to his rich piano arrangements, Arabian melodies and rhythmic Eastern reggae.
