Cellist Arne Deforce and pianist Daan Vandewalle, both passionate about new music for many years, meet in this unadulterated new and versatile program. The first part offers a contrast that one would call hilarious if it were not so moving: Webern's 'Three Little Stücke' versus the 'Gran Duetto' by the Russian composer and student of Shostakovich, Galina Ustwolskaya. Three apparent trivialities by Webern, which he himself also calls 'little' by way of pleonasm, versus the Lady with the Hammer, who in turn shows grand plans in the title. The second section opens with a kind of mirror image of Webern's opus 11, the 'Drei Stücke' by Edison Denisov. Finally, there is a world creation of a work by the American Alvin Curran, the tireless postmodernist who studied with Elliot Carter in Berlin.
