ARNE DEFORCE: 'CELLO & LIVE ELECTRONICA'

In his new program, cellist Arne Deforce focuses on some poetic highlights of the imagination of 'Ars Elektronica'. With 'Solo' by pioneer Karlheinz Stockhausen as a historical textbook example, we hear how the cello solo, with the help of an electronic freeze system, branches and splits into a singing choir of sustained cello tones. These are distributed in the room via loudspeakers. As the cellist continues to play, notes and chords are gradually extracted from his part until a complex network of harmonies surfaces. The work of the Finnish Kaija Saariaho explores thin and subtle overtones in beautiful pastel sounds. Her work 'Petals' (after Monet's 'Nymphéas') is a fragile play of timbres that radiates a sensual, dreamy but also ominous atmosphere. In 'L'Aube Assaillie', Spanish composer Hèctor Parra looks for the deep, warm undertones of the cello and, on top of that, builds a dialogue in high registers between the cellist's lightning-fast movements and doublings or commentaries on them in the speakers.
