In the course Throughout the history of music, the viola has had to take its place between the extremely popular violin and the powerful, full cello. It was only in the nineteenth century that composers gradually ventured into compositions for the warm, melancholic viola. There are few recordings of work for solo viola. That is precisely why the solo debut of the young Antoine Tamestit was a breath of fresh air. In 2007 he released a CD with works by Bach and Ligeti through Ambroisie. Bach's second partita was originally written for violin, but turned out to be interesting for the viola as well. According to Tamestit, it allows the bassline to speak more. The 'Chaconne in D' in particular is a beautiful rhythmic movement in which the virtuosity of instrument and musician is fully showcased. Antoine Tamestit is also called the Gainsbourg of the viola. He goes to the very core of the sound, touches the core of the music and is one with his instrument.
