Ana Moura

Although Ana Moura sang in a rock band in her teens, fado was never very far away. She also performed one fado at each performance. She was discovered by Jorge Fernando, an accompanist of Amália Rodrigues and the most performed fado author in Portugal. The fado singer Maria da Fe also heard her and asked Ana to sing in the most famous fado house in Lisbon. There she mastered the complicated fado styles of the older and more experienced artists and developed her rich contralto voice.

For her debut album she intensively searched for the essence of traditional fados. Ana Moura has also explored more contemporary themes. This year she released her third album: 'Para Além da Saudade' (Beyond Desire). The single 'Os Búzios' is about hearing the sea in a shell. In the Portuguese press, Ana Moura's rendition of 'Os Búzios' is considered one of the most beautiful moments of Portuguese Fado in 2007. Ana Moura's powerful fado leaves an indelible impression.
