Amparo Sanchez

After more than ten years as the frontwoman of Amparanoia, Spanish singer Amparo Sanchez has completed her intimate solo debut. For 'Tucson-Habana' she traveled with Joey Burns and John Convertino from Calexico to Tucson, America. A year and a half later, she took the analog tapes and the same team of musicians to the legendary Egrem Studio in Havana. “Some songs asked for some Latin. Cuba, for me that is coming home. It looks like Andalusia, where I come from,” said Sanchez. On the record we hear not only a hint of Latin, but also blues, jazz and even rock. The flamboyant singer cannot simply be pigeonholed. Expect acoustic sounds alongside Afro-Cuban rhythms laced with a lot of southern temperament.
