Alexandre Tharaud must be the only concert pianist who does not have his own piano. He studies with friends, because if he had his own instrument, addiction would lurk around the corner. This way he keeps his desire to play fresh and alive. This does not make him an eccentric at all, because his idiosyncratic view of baroque music and the standard repertoire is appreciated by a wide audience. In February 2011, Alexandre Tharaud released a CD with work by Domenico Scarlatti. Scarlatti composed approximately 550 sonatas, containing his impressions of daily life in Spain - where he worked at the court. Minutes of total stillness and melancholy alternate with extrovert passion. Tharaud also presents Funérailles, one of the best-known parts of Liszt's ten Harmonies poétiques et réligieuses. The Hungarian, who strongly sympathized with the revolutionary movement of the time, dedicated this composition to the victims of the turbulent European revolution years 1848-1849.
