Pianist Jef Neve and Dutch trumpeter Teus Nobel have both been part of the international jazz scene for years. In recent years they have toured the world together. Their well-oiled ensemble playing and joy in playing has resulted in a long-awaited duo album, recorded live - with an audience - quite deliberately.
They play a mix of their own compositions and jazz classics, including the title track "Esho Funi", a composition by Teus about the Japanese theme of unity between oneself and one's surroundings. And this absolute connection is something the gentlemen show like no other.
Musically they challenge each other relentlessly. Add to this the entertaining anecdotes of these eloquent gentlemen and you have the recipe for a wonderful evening.
