Warm up at this Foyer Matinee to the glow of The Golden Glows. With one guitar and three voices, they return to the essence. After years of exploring and delving within Americana, they present their new album Sunrise (Excelsior Recordings) with their own songs of pure, timeless beauty.

With austere means, this trio creates a unique, understated world - akin to great songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake and Nick Cave - that stands out for tasteful guitar work and beautiful close harmony.

Sunrise is a three-part singersongwriter record that, as its title suggests, aims to be a beacon of hope and warmth in troubled times. It is an album that whispers in a world that screams.

The album

Change and transformation is the thread running through the album, in many forms and guises. The opening track is an immediate statement of intent.

'Sunrise' is a sprightly ode to the sun, with a touch of Egyptian mysticism. 'California (Golden State)' follows the path of introspection to self-transformation.
Then again, 'Fathers' deals with the consequences of a major change: the disappearance of father figures.
The epic 'Hurricane' and the mysterious 'The Ballad of Dreams' are also about the search for new ways of living.
And in addition to the hushed, spiritual finale 'Ultraviolet,' there are also two handsome love songs: 'The Song of Songs' with Biblical references and 'Blue Crystal Fire' by folk mystic Robbie Basho, a cover.
