We can find out which trees his instruments come from, but what kind of wood is Joris Vanvinckenroye (Troissoeur, Aranis, Clustermusic) cut from? After thirty years of making music, he goes solo with the personal album 'BASta! III' - which moves into more obscure realms.
The album is released on Ronin Rhythm Records (Nik Bärtsch's label) and sounds like a mystical middle ground between minimalism, chamber music and prog rock. It will be an intimate performance with deep roots and many musical ramifications.
"Yes, this is more mellow than most stuff featured on the doom charts, but because of Joris’ approach of using double bass and a loop machine, it comes across way heavier than you’d expect and even has got a borderline doom vibe when the wonderful compositions swell and get more dense." Doomcharts
"The result is an orchestra of double basses alternating in constructed rhythms, counterpoints, overlaps and beautiful solos. (...) Elements of chamber music, jazz, minimalism, a touch of Michael Nyman and a pinch of Piazzolla make Joris' music unique, powerful and immense". Progbrasil
Joris called his double bass Anna. It was made of Bosnian maple, tropical black ebony, spruce from the Alps, and accompanied by a bow of the finest horsehair from Mongolia.
When did they become intertwined? Is there jealousy that a viola da gamba has been added after all these years? Find out this Sunday morning during the Foyer Matinee.
