Filharmonisch Orkest van de Oeral

Philharmonic music in a chamber music hall is bizarre in any case, but the Terterian program takes it even further: the music of the Armenian composer Avet Terterian (1929–1994) is one that you should experience rather than listen to. At the basis of his symphonic music is the dam principle, the endless tone that Armenian folk musicians achieve by playing without pauses for breath, especially on the traditional duduk (a type of shawm or baroque oboe). Although traceable to Armenian roots, Terterian's music is universal. Tonight you can become acquainted with a unique musical universe by a composer who is still far too unknown to us, performed by the orchestra to which Terterian himself had devoted his heart.

In the past decade, this philharmonic orchestra has grown into the top orchestra in Russia: Gidon Kremer spends his holidays with it, composers such as Gubaidulina and Kancheli consider the interpretation of their oeuvre by this orchestra as the standard to be followed.
