We know Ghent sax prodigy Mattias De Craene from his bands Nordmann and MDCIII or as sideman of Dijf Sanders, Sylvie Kreusch and Millionaire. For a few years now, he has also been causing a stir as a solo artist.
His debut album "Patterns for (a) Film" was one of the highlights of 2022. On it, the turbulent, dark sound of MDCIII and Nordmann gives way to a more personal, minimalist sound that hovers somewhere between ambient, jazz and free improvisation.
Patterns is a musical quest in which De Craene uses loops and effects to highlight the power and versatility of the saxophone. In 2024 Videodroom, VIERNULVIER's soundtrack festival, invited De Craene to compose a new score for the cult film "The Holy Mountain". The compositions for this new soundtrack were released on the rock-solid album A House Where I Dream.
The fascinating world of Mattias De Craene has similarities to the worlds of Nils Frahm and Colin Stetson. We are delighted to welcome one of the most exciting musicians from Flanders to Boomtown!
