Mali's Bassekou Kouyaté is the undisputed master of the ngoni, an African lute. Together with his phenomenal live band Ngoni Ba and his wife and vocalist Amy Sacko, he has pushed the boundaries of the centuries-old musical heritage internationally by adding strings and effects. He has performed worldwide with legends such as Youssou N'Dour and Carlos Santana, earning accolades such as BBC Awards and a Grammy nomination.
On his latest album, Djudjon, he explores his life's journey and deep connection to his Ngoni in a duo with Amy Sacko. The album features new and reinterpreted lyrics in Bambara and Peul, sharing their fears, hopes and philosophical musings while paying tribute to important figures from the Bambara kingdom. The album was recorded in their village of Garana by their son Madou Kouyate and produced entirely in Mali, highlighting their cultural roots and traditions.

In 2019, Belgian guitarist Haroun Iqbal came into contact with the rich tradition of West African kora music for the first time. After a few lessons with Derek Gripper, he meets the renowned kora player and griot Bao Sissoko, with whom he begins an intensive collaboration.
In his current set, Haroun returns to his love of the solo kora style, inspired by luminaries such as Toumani Diabaté, Ballaké Sissoko and Ablaye Cissoko. Although his background in jazz and North Indian classical music subtly shines through, he remains rooted in the deep Kora tradition.
